Judge sets trial date for Megan Boswell, woman charged in toddler daughter's killing

Staubus believes the trial could take 3 to 4 weeks and the goal is to select a jury in Sullivan County.

BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. — (UPDATE 9/30) During a status hearing on Thursday, Judge Jim Goodwin set a trial date for September 26, 2022, at 8:30 a.m. for Megan Boswell, the woman charged with killing her daughter, baby Evelyn Boswell.

Previously, a grand jury indicted Megan Boswell on 19 total charges last year, including felony murder and child abuse. Boswell has pleaded not guilty.

Sullivan County District Attorney Barry Staubus announced in January that the prosecution intends to seek a punishment of life in prison without parole.

After a briefing court hearing on May 14, Megan Boswell's case got a new date of Sept. 30 in Sullivan County.

Boswell appeared in the courtroom for the first time since the pandemic started for a status hearing Thursday.

Staubus said forensic testing at the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is still ongoing.

Boswell's lawyer, Brad Sproles, has reviewed 800,000 photographs, 28,000 texts and other pieces of evidence. Sproles has made a motion to reduce Boswell's bond. That will be heard on December 7 at 1:30 p.m.

Staubus believes the trial could take 3 to 4 weeks and the goal is to select a jury in Sullivan County.
