MARYVILLE, Tenn. — The Maryville school system is doing its part to help in the fight against COVID-19.
The system donated leftover hand sanitizer that's been stored at closed schools to Blount Memorial Hospital. Schools have been closed since mid March when the virus began to spread in Tennessee.
Principals gathered up a half-dozen boxloads of sanitizer and Clorox wipes as well as thousands of pairs of gloves.
Director of Schools Dr, Mike Winstead said they were happy to help. School administrators appreciate what hospital personnel are doing to help the community, he said.
"Anything we can do in that regard, we certainly are happy to help in any way we can," Winstead said.
The hospital reached out for assistance. Teachers keep sanitizer handy in classrooms.
Like all school systems in the state, Maryville is now closed to help abate the spread of the virus.
