Sights in the sky: Great Smoky Mountains Hot Air Balloon Festival

It's the event's third year. Complete with food trucks, beer tents, wine tastings and activities for the kids.

TOWNSEND, Tenn. — Vibrant colors filling the sky tonight as the Great Smoky Mountains Hot Air Balloon Festival takes to the air in Townsend.

It's the event's third year. Complete with food trucks, beer tents, wine tastings, and activities for the kids.

But the main eye-catcher, of course, is the balloons, and some people even got to go for a little ride.

"And all these people that you see with these orange shirts are all locals. And we're all doing it just to provide a good time and for people to realize that this is the peaceful side of the Smokies. We have a unique atmosphere here in Townsend and we want them to experience that here today," event co-chair Mark Oldham said.

The event was free, and tethered balloon rides were $20.
