How you can honor fallen heroes in East TN on Memorial Day

Memorial Day is rooted in the tradition of honoring American troops killed serving our country.

We often think of Memorial Day as the unofficial start to summer.

We break out the boats and gather around our grills, but it is important to take some time to honor the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Memorial Day dates back to the practice during the Civil War era of placing flowers on the graves of soldiers. At that time in our history, many people referred to it as "Decoration Day."
