As part of the Masterworks series, The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra is exploring ideas of ‘A New World,’ from American composer Rachel Grimes to the Czech influence of Antonn Dvok. The performances are Thursday at Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Tennessee Theatre.
Theatre Knoxville Downtown’s latest show is ‘On Golden Pond,’ a comedic drama about a retired couple who spends their 48th summer together at their vacation home on Golden Pond. The show runs from January 4 through January 20. Tickets are $15.
The Violins of Hope, a collection of restored violins that were played by Jewish musicians during the Holocaust, is in Knoxville. You can see the historic violins at the UT Downtown Gallery on Gay Street

The Alive After Five series continues this week at the Knoxville Museum of Art. The Streamliners Swing Orchestra is performing at 6 p.m. General admission tickets are $15.
Friday is College Night at the Knoxville Ice Bears game against the Huntsville Havoc. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. College students can buy a silver level ticket and receive a t-shirt for $19.98.
The Knoxville Flea Market is at the Knoxville Expo Center this weekend. Hours are 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Talented young actors and actresses at the Knoxville Children’s Theatre are performing ‘Winnie the Pooh’ January 18 through February 3. The play, which is passed on the classic novel, features 13 performers who range in age from eight to 16.

The Blount County Public Library is hosting a special sensory showing of the movie, ‘A Wrinkle In Time’ on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The sensory environment provides moderate lighting and LEGOs and crafts.
There is also a MLK Kids and Family Fair at the Blount County Public Library on Saturday. The free event runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and includes storytelling, music, crafts, and educational groups.
The University of Tennessee is hosting a violin symposium to allow visitors to experience some of the nation’s top performers in recitals and masterclasses. The free event lasts from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and includes guest artists like Sally Shepherd Perkins, a professor of Violin at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and Jinjoo Cho, the 2014 winner of the Indianapolis International Violin Competition. The symposium is located inside the Natalie Haslam Music Center.
The Calhoun’s 10 Miler, also known as the 2019 RRCA Tennessee State 10 Mile Championship is Saturday in Oak Ridge. The run, which starts and finishes at Calhoun’s in Oak Ridge, begins at 8 a.m. Race day registration costs $35.

It’s time for Family Adventure Sunday at Ijams Nature Center. This week’s program is called ‘tracking down nature.’ Families will play tracking games to identify animal droppings by using their noses to sniff out clues. The fee for the program is $8 for individuals or $25 for a family.
Build your own hiking stick at a fun workshop at Panther Creek State Park on Sunday. Guests will use files, rasps, sandpaper, and hammers to make the sticks. The cost for the program is $15 and guests should meet at the Upper Campground Shelter at 3 p.m.
The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra is partnering with several other arts groups to honor the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior on Sunday. The commemorative concert is free and open to the public. It starts at 6 p.m.
