Seymour crews rescue elderly couple from creek crash

An elderly couple is recovering after rescue crews pulled their car from a creek.

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee — The Seymour Volunteer Fire Department rescued an elderly couple Wednesday afternoon after their car crashed 20 feet down an embankment into a creek, a news release from the fire department said.

Neither was seriously injured in the crash, which occurred at W. Union Valley Road at Porterfield Gap Road, the release said.

They were able to rescue the couple using ropes and a ladder, getting them back up to the roadway. 

They were treated by Sevier County Ambulance medics and transported for precautionary measures, according to the release.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol and Sevier County Sheriff are investigating the accident.
