Free scarves left on benches, trees in Downtown Knoxville

A group of students is behind the warm act of kindness.

During lunch on Wednesday, students in the Key Club at L&N STEM Academy left class with handfuls of scarves and a mission to spread ‘warm thoughts’ to anyone in need of a little extra warmth this winter.

The students collected roughly 100 winter scarves, gloves and hats and attached a tag to each one that said, 'I am not lost ... You can keep me at no cost! Take me to keep you warm in the cold and help someone else when you can, as this act of kindness is twofold!'

Each donated scarf has a note attached that explains its purpose.

They tied the scarves to benches and wrapped them around trees in Downtown Knoxville before returning to class.

They plan to take any uncollected scarves to the Northside Kiwanis Club next week where they will be handed out to nonprofit organizations.
