Sevier County animal shelter dealing with Parvo outbreak

The organization's president Lory Souders told 10News the outbreak started with a litter of puppies that was recently brought into the shelter.

The Pets Without Parents animal shelter in Sevierville is dealing with an outbreak of Parvo, a virus that is highly contagious and can be fatal.

Shelter staff posted about the virus on their Facebook page Monday.

The organization's president Lory Souders told 10News the outbreak started with a litter of puppies that was recently brought into the shelter.

Those dogs are being treated, and the shelter has created quarantine zones for other dogs that may have been exposed, she said.

The Parvo outbreak comes just one week after the shelter put down dozens of cats for illness.
