KPD chief among 10 finalists for TBI's top job

Those ten will eventually be narrowed down to three finalists by the commission to be considered by Governor Bill Haslam before July 1.

Several law enforcement leaders familiar to East Tennessee are on the short list to be the next director of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Knoxville Police Chief David Rausch and Edward Reinhold, former Special Agent in Charge of Knoxville's FBI office, are among the ten finalists for TBI's top job.

Danny Wright, a former Rockwood Police Chief and TBI agent and now a professor at Roane State is on the list, along with former Bradley County Sheriff Tim Gobble and David Jolley, the recently appointed U.S. Marshal for East Tennessee.

Current TBI deputy director Jason Locke and assistant TBI director Richard Moore also made the first cut.

Rounding out the top ten candidates are Genevieve May, the U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Louisiana; Marjorie Quin, an assistant professor at Cumberland University in Lebanon and former TBI agent; and Jerry Kitchen, the assistant U.S. attorney in Memphis.

Those ten will eventually be narrowed down to three finalists by the commission to be considered by Governor Bill Haslam before July 1.

According to the TBI, the preferred candidate for the job would have at least a bachelor's degree and seven years of experience at a command-level position, as well as be able to meet the certification requirements for law enforcement officers in Tennessee and obtain a top secret security clearance.

The TBI said the most ideal candidates would also be able to show they had continued training and self-development in ways like police leadership development programs or being a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

The current TBI director, Mark Gwyn, announced his retirement in February after serving for 14 years. Gwyn's retirement is effective June 1, 2018.ional Academy.
