Snow flurries are moving through East Tennessee today

The mountains could get at least several inches starting late Tuesday into early Wednesday.

What a wintry Wednesday! Oh, and did we mention that it's also the first full day of Spring?

Mt. LeConte has already recorded 6 inches of snow! Here are a few totals from other parts fo the area:

Most of that snow is melting quickly in the lower elevations but flurries are expected to continue into this evening.

Little to no additional accumulation expected in the lower elevations.

Parts of the Plateau could see a temporary dusting with heavier snow bands and a few more inches of snow is possible in the higher elevations of the Smokies!

Temperatures will hold steady in the 30s today with breezy westerly winds keeping wind chills in the 20s.

**Travel could be hazardous with some slick spots on roads in southern Kentucky where a Winter Weather Advisory (areas shaded in purple) is in effect until midnight. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the higher elevations of the Smokies until midnight. Travel is not recommended through the areas shaded in pink tonight.**

With the snow flurries slowly tapering off and skies beginning to clear, we are in for a VERY COLD night! Lows will be in the upper 20s to near 30 degrees and winds will lighten up overnight. A freeze is expected tonight. Sensitive plants could be damaged or killed so cover them if you can!

Thankfully, although we'll start the morning on a cold note, we should be able to thaw out a little bit on Thursday. We'll see some sunshine and highs will make it up to around 50 degrees. That is still 10-15 degrees below average for the middle of March... but it's still warmer than today!
