THP IDs woman killed in Hwy 66 crash involving Sevier Co. deputy

Juanita C. Cate, 87, died after allegedly running a red light and then colliding with a sheriff's deputy at the intersection of Highway 66 and Huffaker Road, according to a THP report.

UPDATE Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018 at 8 p.m.: The Tennessee Highway Patrol has identified the woman killed in a crash on Highway 66 Tuesday involving a Sevier County deputy.

Juanita C. Cate, 87, died after allegedly running a red light and then colliding with a sheriff's deputy vehicle at the intersection of Highway 66 and Huffaker Road, according to a THP report.

Cate was transported by LifeStar to UT Medical Center after the crash. The deputy was taken to UTMC by ambulance.

ORIGINAL STORY: A Sevier County Sheriff's Office deputy was involved in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 66 Tuesday evening, officials said.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said Wednesday morning that someone died in the crash, but have released no further information about the victim.

A spokesperson for the city of Sevierville said the driver of the other vehicle, an elderly woman, was injured in the crash and was transported by LifeStar to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

The deputy was taken to UTMC by ambulance.

The crash happened around 5:15 p.m. near Huffaker Road.
