Officials: Body of missing Karns man found in Bull Run Creek

The Anderson County Sheriff's Department has said a body believed to be a missing person from Knox County was recovered from Bull Run Creek Wednesday afternoon.

The Anderson County Sheriff's Department said a body believed to be a missing person from Knox County was recovered from Bull Run Creek Wednesday afternoon.

The drowning victim's body spotted around 4 p.m. Wednesday by a fisherman, and then reported to the sheriff's department. It was recovered by divers from the Anderson County Sheriff's Department with the help of the Anderson County Rescue Squad and its boat.

According to the sheriff's department, the body was taken to the regional forensic center for identification by the medical examiner.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office identified the man as 66-year-old Freddy Shulz, of Karns, who was reported missing on Sunday.

A search began on Sunday afternoon after the missing person's truck was found near the Bull Run Park on New Henderson Road.

Additional searches by the sheriff's department, Anderson County Rescue Squad, and Knoxville Volunteer Rescue Squad continued Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The sheriff's department said search efforts were hampered by very muddy, swift-moving water from the recent rains.

UPDATE Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018 6:09 p.m.: Anderson County Sheriff Chief Deputy Mark Lucas said authorities are working to investigate a missing person reported by the Knox County Sheriff's Office Sunday afternoon.

Dispatchers in Anderson County originally said there was a possible water rescue but Anderson Co. Chief Deputy Mark Lucas confirmed that is not the case.

A vehicle was found at Bull Run Park that was in connection to a missing person reported by the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

Anderson County Rescue Squad and Knoxville Volunteer Rescue Squad were both at the scene to search for the missing person. They have dive teams working to look for the missing person.

ORIGINAL STORY Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018 at 5 p.m.: Anderson County Sheriff's Office and Knox County Rescue Squad are at the scene of a possible water rescue near the Bull Run Park Boat Ramp, according to Anderson County dispatchers.

The call came in around 12:44 p.m., a dispatcher from Anderson County said.

Anderson County Sheriff's Office is taking the lead on the investigation, a dispatcher from Anderson County said.
