Anderson Co. church congregation holds interfaith talk, calls for 'no hate'

A church congregation in Oak Ridge took a stance against white nationalist groups and held an interfaith, "no hate" event on Saturday.

A church congregation in Anderson County took a stance against white nationalist groups like the Traditionalist Worker Group that spoke at UT campus on Saturday.

The Oak Ridge Interfaith Partnership host a few speakers to talk about unity among the community, and how there is no room for hate.

"One of the main goals of the Oak Ridge Interfaith Partnership is to build the beloved community," Rebecca Rumbaugh Bowman, the event organizer, said. "There is no room for hate groups in our beloved community."

Bowman said she really wanted to spread the message of peace after the white nationalist group made an appearance in Knoxville.

"We just felt moved to make it possible for the people of our community and other counties to come together," Bowman said. "To make our voices known... And how insidious hate can be."

Bowman also said Saturday's events were proof that unity can be the foundation to build a stronger community.
