Police ID victims in Selma Ave shooting that left 1 person dead, 1 injured

An early morning Knoxville shooting has claimed the life of one person and injured a second. Police are asking for help in the investigation.

UPDATE Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018 at 10 a.m.: Knoxville Police have identified the victims of a double shooting that occurred on Selma Avenue overnight.

On Wednesday, Jan. 24, at approximately 1:24 a.m. officers said they found James Watts, 27, and Adrian Harris, 34, suffering from gunshot wounds to the torso at the intersection with Elmwood Street. Harris later died at UT Medical Center, KPD said.

Watts was rushed into surgery and when police were getting a condition of the second male, UT Medical Center personnel informed the E-911 Center that he had also died. Knoxville Police said that proved to be in error and he's being treated for life-threatening injuries.

According to police, a small dark-colored sedan was seen leaving the scene of the shooting and could possibly belong to the suspect or suspects. The police department said that based on information and evidence gathered in the investigation, this was not a random incident.

Editor's Note: Knoxville Police said due to a miscommunication, UT Medical Center inadvertently told the 911 Center that the second victim had died. According to police the second shooting victim is still alive and receiving treatment.

Around 1:30 Wednesday morning Knoxville Police Officers responded to reports of a double shooting on Selma Avenue near Elmwood Street in East Knoxville.

Once on the scene, officers found two men who had been shot in the chest area. Both men were taken to UT Medical Center, where one died from his injuries.

As for suspects, police don't have a lot of information other than a small dark colored sedan is a possible suspect vehicle.
