A 24-year-old man allegedly threatening suicide with a loaded syringe in Campbell County has been taken into custody after a chase and a crash.

Sheriff Robbie K. Goins said deputies responded to Stooksbury Lane in the Pinecrest Community around 10:25 a.m. Monday after learning Daniel Lance, 24, apparently had a loaded syringe and ran over his step-father with a vehicle and left the scene.

When deputies said they were nearly on scene, they spotted Lance approaching them from the opposite direction on Pinecrest Road. Another deputy was notified and able to intercept Lance's vehicle, according to the Campbell County Sheriff's Office. However, Lance didn't stop.

Corporeal Gary Jeffers who had originally spotted Lance on Pinecrest Road returned to the Stooksbury Lane scene to begin an investigation. Other deputies continued to track Lance.

Family members told Jeffers that they were trying stop Lance from leaving.

"Corporeal Jeffers' investigation along with witnesses and victim' statements lead him to believe that Lance's vehicle rammed the truck at least three times in its driver's side," Goins said.

The sheriff's office said extensive damage was done to the truck and the rear of Lance's vehicle.

Lance was on bond for previous charges. There were outstanding warrants for his arrest on other incidents including 2 counts of forgery and 2 counts of theft of property under $1,000.

He was taken to the hospital for medical treatment, according to the sheriff's office.

Goins said his deputies plan to charge Lance with aggravated domestic assault and felony reckless endangerment based on the events deputies believe occurred at the Stooksbury Lane scene. He'll also receive a felony evading arrest charge.

THP will investigate the conclusion of the vehicle pursuit in front of the IGA Store on Jacksboro Pike and will place charges as well, according to Goins.

"The Jacksboro Police will also have separate charges based on this incident tying to an ongoing investigation in their jurisdiction," Goins said.
